A portable small wind turbine for your phone?!

Two electricians Einar Agustsson and Agust Agustsson, both from the US, have designed a portable small wind turbine named Trinity which can be set up anywhere to charge a phone by USB. The unit itself folds into a 12” cylinder, making it easier to transport anywhere. The wind turbine is rated at 15W and even has a built-in battery that holds 15,000mAh.
Here is what they had to say about the project:
“We understand the role sustainable energy holds for our future and the importance for humans to live in harmony with nature. When designing Trinity we looked to nature and natural law… Our vertical axis design was chosen so Trinity could capture the wind coming from any direction. We wanted to make it portable and sleek. something you can put in your bag and take with you everywhere as we have been doing with our prototypes. Bringing the design to where it is today came with many challenges such as fitting everything in such a compact package and turning a tube into a tripod. Trinity has changed enormously from the first drawings and first rough prototype to where it is now.”
Trinity is currently on Kickstarter, a crowd funding site, in order to raise enough funds to manufacture these small wind turbines. For a pledge of $249, the pair of creators will send you your very own Trinity portable wind turbine, which has a suggested retail price of $399 USD. The funding period for this project will last until May 31, 2014.
So what do you think about using a small wind turbine to charge your phone? Is this a good idea or a bad one? Leave your comments down below!
