maintenance agreement for wind farm

Siemens Canada has just announced its involvement in Northland Power’s Grand Bend Wind Farm. The company will be supplying and installing 40 SWT-3.2-113 direct-drive wind turbines, which will generate enough electricity to power over 30,000 Ontario homes.

Construction for the project has already begun, and the wind farm is expected to be operational by mid-2016. All of the blades required for the project will be manufactured by the Siemens wind turbine blade plant in Tillsonburg, Ontario, while the towers will be built in another area of the province.

According to their press release, “The project also includes a 10-year service and maintenance agreement, ensuring the reliability, availability and performance of the turbines. Siemens’ wind turbine Service and Maintenance Distribution Centre in Chatham, Ontario, will support this project. The centre stores commonly used wind turbine parts and serves as a training centre to develop and advance technical and safety skills for the firm’s wind technicians.”

Jacob Anderson, Head of Wind Power Renewables, Siemens Canada said:

“We are pleased to have been selected by Northland Power on this wind project and look forward to our role in completing the Grand Bend wind farm and continuing to deliver renewable energy solutions to Ontario and the rest of Canada.”

John Brace, John Brace, CEO, Northland Power said:

“Northland, along with our partners, the Aamjiwnaang First Nation and Bkejwanong Territory (Walpole Island First Nation), look forward to working with Siemens on this project. Together, we are building a stronger, more sustainable future for Grand Bend and Ontario.”

Northland Power Inc. has also recently acquired the majority equity share of the Gemini Offshore Wind Project in the Netherlands which they will also be partnering with Siemens for the supply of its wind turbines.
