U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell announced that SkySpecs, a company that designed a wind turbine inspection drone, has won the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Small Business Voucher.
Dingell commented: “SkySpecs is leading the way in the development of new technology that will improve renewable energy reliability,”
“This collaboration with Sandia National Labs will help America transition toward cleaner forms of energy and help reduce greenhouse gases. Companies within southeastern Michigan continue to innovate and improve technologies that will ensure America is a leader in renewable energy.”
According to the DOE the small business voucher provide $20 million to US companies to ‘connect private sector needs with corresponding laboratory science and technology capabilities, and target small businesses where engagement with the laboratories can add significant value.’
SkySpecs CEO Danny Ellis said, “SkySpecs is thrilled to be working with the researchers at Sandia National Laboratories to advance the inspection capability of automated drones. Sandia’s cutting-edge inspection techniques combined with our technology will dramatically improve wind turbine inspections. The SBV program allows SkySpecs to access Sandia’s expertise and ultimately produce a more powerful solution because of our collaboration. Our team is looking very forward to the opportunity.”
