Vestas receives repowering project in Germany

Vestas supplies wind turbines for wind power and repowering projects


Repowering projects are becoming more and more important and popular as the wind industry (and wind turbines) ‘age’. Vestas has recently received a repowering project to replace aging wind turbines in Germany.


Roughly 76MW of wind power will be installed at the Norderwöhrden wind park in Schleswig-Holstein, Northern Germany and over 40 types of wind turbines will be replaced by Vestas with their V112-3.45 MW model. Some of the existing wind turbines have even been in place for over 30 years!


According to the company, the firm and unconditional order comprises supply and commissioning of the wind turbines as well as a 15-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM5000) service contract and VestasOnline Business SCADA solution. Delivery and commissioning is planned for the third quarter of this year.


General Managers at Looft-Schmidt Projekte Erneuerbarer Energien GmbH, Peter Looft and Michael Schmidt said, “Together with Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog, Norderwöhrden is the cradle of the German energy transition and thus a special place within wind energy in Germany with the first turbines being installed more than 30 years ago.
